Types of Tile Trims

There are basically three types of materials for tile trims: PVC tile trims, aluminum tile trims and stainless steel tile trims.

1.   PVC tile trims

PVC is short for Polyvinyl Chloride. It is a kind of plastic decorative materials. In domestic markets, PVC tile trims is widely used in big quantities and cheap prices. One can almost see PVC tile trims in every building material market around China. But PVC tile trims’ shortcoming is obvious. It has bad thermal stability and impact resistance. PVC tile trims are also weak in anti-corrosion and oxidation resistance. No matter it is hard PVC tile trim or soft PVC tile trim, it becomes brittle when it gets aging after some time of usage.


2.   Aluminum tile trims

The main alloy elements of aluminum tile trims are aluminum, copper, silicon, magnesium, zinc and manganese. Secondary alloy elements include nickel, iron, titanium, chromium, lithium, etc. Aluminum tile trim is low in density but high in strength. It is close to or even surpass good quality steel tile trim. Aluminum is quite malleable, so aluminum tile trims have various shapes and designs. Aluminum tile trims are getting more and more popular nowadays. They are more environmental-friendly then PVC tile trims. Because aluminum tile trims are recyclable. Aluminium tile trims are widely used in decoration, both indoors and outdoors. Aluminium tile trims are corrosion resistant, antioxidant and very durable. Aluminum tile trims are also lighter than stainless steel tile trims, so transportation is more cost effective.


3.   Stainless steel tile trims

Stainless steel tile trims are far less popular than PVC tile trims or aluminum tile trims because of their high prices. Stainless steel tile trims have higher resistance to corrosive agents like air, steam, water, acid, alkali, salt, etc. But their heavy weight makes them high in transportation cost. And stainless steel tile trims do not have much patterns to choose from because of stainless steel is less malleable than other materials.
