TIP: Extrusion Mould Care and Troubleshooting
The working conditions of extrusion moulds are very harsh. They must endure high temperature, high pressure, and severe friction and wear. They also face periodic loads. This means the mould needs high thermal stability, thermal fatigue resistance, thermal wear resistance, and enough toughness. To meet these requirements, high-quality 4Cr5MoSiV1 (H13) alloy steel is commonly used. Vacuum heat treatment and quenching are applied to prepare the mould for aluminum profile production.
Long-term use of aluminum extrusion moulds can cause the following problems:
1. Seam angles or poor welding.
2. Concave or convex bow-shaped surfaces on the aluminum profile.
3. Line strips on the surface of the profile.
4. Bending or twisting of aluminum profiles.
To maintain aluminum extrusion moulds:
1. Use the right extrusion machine for production.
2. Choose proper ingots and set the correct heating temperature.
3. Optimize the extrusion process.
4. Perform nitriding treatment before using the mould.
5. Apply low-to-high-to-low strength during use.
6. Follow the correct method for alkali washing (cooking the mould).
7. Grind and polish the working belt of the mould before machining.
8. Limit the mould holding time during extrusion to 2-3 hours, and never exceed 8 hours.
