How do you fill gaps between tile and trim?

- Nov 17, 2023-

To fill gaps between tile and trim, you can use a flexible caulking compound that matches the color of the tile or the trim. Here are the steps to follow:

1. Clean the gap thoroughly to remove any debris or dirt using a vacuum or a brush.

2. Cut the tip of the caulking tube at a 45-degree angle.

3. Apply a bead of caulk to the gap, making sure to fill it completely.

4. Smooth out the caulk with a caulking tool or your finger.

5. Wipe away any excess caulk using a damp cloth.

6. Let the caulk dry according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually about 24 hours.

If you have a larger gap to fill, you can use a foam backer rod to fill the gap before applying the caulk. Simply insert the backer rod into the gap until it is flush with the surface of the tile and trim, then apply the caulk over the backer rod. This will ensure that the caulk adheres well and doesn't shrink over time.
